What kind of encryption is used?
The PDF is encrypted with standard AES encryption, the same scheme desktop PDF apps use, so any modern PDF reader can open it with the correct password.
What happens if I forget the password?
There is no recovery — the encryption is real, and nobody (including us) can open the file without the password. Store it somewhere safe.
Is my password sent to a server?
No. Both the password and the file are processed locally in your browser and never transmitted anywhere.
